Night talker strode across the field toward her dappled grey pony with a smile on her face. The English woman was waiting for her by the waterfall to teach her more of the strange new tongue. She wanted to be able to speak to the young ones at the Great Feast. Many times she watched the children of the pale ones playing and swimming together. Soon she would join them with words of friendship to share. Her people heard the great hawks cry and the bear's growl. They knew so many ways to speak to each other and to the wild ones but they had not tried to learn the pale ones words. Night Talker would lead the way or so said the teacher who even now held out her arms to receive the young girl by the stream.

The English woman lead Night Talker into the stream and pulled something out of her pocket.
"Soap," the pale one said, as she proceeded to glide something magical and fragrant like wild fresh flowers across the darker skin.

Night Talker basked in the lovely sensation,"What are you
called ?" she asked the pale woman.
"My name is Rose," the girl said.
"Will you give me a name like yours?" she asked.
Night Talker thought for a moment as the cool water cascaded from her shoulders,"I think you are Morning Sky, because your eyes are that color."
"I will give you the English name,Sharon, because I once had a little sister by that name." answered Rose.

Night Talker's brown eyes started to moisten with tears. After a short while, she stated matter-of-factly, "I understand your pain. I too once had a little sister."

Rose kissed her cheek and said,"Will you braid my hair like yours little one?" Night Talker looked at the waist long cascade of golden curls and laughed,"Yes,it is a good idea." It was wonderful to have found a new friend. She just hoped her tribe would accept Morning Sky too.

Night Talker was surprised at all the things Morning Sky wanted to bring along with her when planning to meet her people the following week. She also had a box contraption that would flash an instant of bright light. "Camera," she called it. Maybe this was not good medicine for her people. Night Talker would have to take control of the English woman if she wanted to meet her people.

Night Talker told Rose that the only way she could take her into the Hidden Valley where her people lived would be blindfolded. This would show that Night Talker was in control.

It pleased Rose that Night Talker was showing a breakthrough in understanding to have her meet the tribe, albeit little steps in not realizing Rose was planning to do so much more, such as documenting every piece and morsel. Rose had so much to share. But Night Talker knew that Morning Sky had just as much to learn.

Rose agreed to Sharon's request and her new reality began once mount and blindfolded. The loss of one sense began magnifying the others. Riding in silence, there was the whistling of wind as branches softly collided with other branches. The fragrance of the wet grass and white pine needles combined to create an earthly, refreshing scent. Balancing one's body and being as one with the horse felt empowering. Allowing the horse to steer was a sensation not known to Rose, but was becoming a refreshing beginning to her Morning Sky association with herself.

Dark clouds began to roll in from the mountains to the west and Night Talker took this as a bad sign. She wanted to turn back but Rose's horse suddenly bolted and took off towards the valley at break neck speed.

watchers in the trees jumped down onto the backs of their ponies and raced after the frightened girl.Rose ripped the cloth from her eyes and struggled to regain control of her horse. The spooked animal went headlong over a precipice , losing its rider in mid-air. The terrified creature hit the rocks with a sickening thud while the girl landed with a splash in the raging river.

Night Talker raced farther down stream trying to get ahead of the desperate girl in the fast moving current. She jumped off her horse and dove into the water , angling her arch to land beside a low hanging tree. Rose screamed and gagged as she fought the current swirling her towards the upcoming rapids.
Night Talker ignored the shock of icy water as she grabbed onto a low branch and braced herself . Watching for the girl, she held out her arm and grabbed a handful of golden curls, jerking Rose towards the tree. Rose tried to yell in pain but only got a mouthful of water for her trouble. Night Talker pulled her close and held her up while she gagged and coughed . Rose managed a weak smile up at her friend before she passed out.

The two young scouts came down to the edge of the stream and pulled the girls up onto the riverbank.Thunder rolled again and Night Talker said,"White Eagle, help me get her into the cave . We can wait there until the storm passes."
White Eagle agreed and then turned to the other scout saying,"Ride back to the village and tell the Old One to have his medicine bag ready. Take the girl's horse with you."
The young warrior rode away into the wind leaving the others to make it to the cave ahead of the storm.
White Eagle lifted the small woman into his arms while Night Talker led the ponies behind them.
They had often climbed this way before in their younger days when the cave was a favorite hideout.
"Hurry, please," Night Talker urged as the wind picked up and the first scattering of raindrops lashed their faces.
White Eagle looked down into the still face of the girl he carried and wondered at the familiar feeling he got from her. It was as if he had known her all his life.
